Embracing Adulthood: Five Heartfelt Tips for Your 20s Journey

Written by Stephanie Lezama

I’ve been doing some deep reflection on what it means to navigate adulthood, especially as someone raised in an immigrant household. It’s funny how at 27, I still don’t always feel like a “grown-up,” but hey, who’s really keeping score, right?

Here are five nuggets of wisdom I’ve picked up along the way that I’d love to share with you:

Own Your Path: Seriously, life’s too short to live according to someone else’s script. Take the time to figure out what truly brings you joy and fulfillment, and then go after it with all you’ve got. Whether it’s traveling the world or pursuing a passion project, make sure it’s your dream you’re chasing.

Adventure Awaits: Speaking of traveling, let me tell you, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of exploring new places and experiencing different cultures. Don’t wait until you’re “ready” or have all the money in the world – start small, explore your own backyard, and let your curiosity guide you.

It’s Okay to Not Be Okay: Look, nobody’s got it all figured out, no matter how put-together they may seem on the outside. It’s perfectly okay to seek help when you need it, whether that means talking to a therapist, journaling your thoughts, or just reaching out to a trusted friend. Your mental health matters, so don’t ever feel ashamed to prioritize it.

Money Matters (But So Does Living): Sure, saving for the future is important, but don’t forget to enjoy the present too. Even if it’s just squirreling away a few bucks here and there, every little bit counts. And remember, it’s not about how much you have, but how wisely you manage it.

Cherish Your Loved Ones: Last but certainly not least, surround yourself with people who lift you up and make your soul shine. Quality relationships are like gold – they’re worth their weight in laughter, support, and shared adventures. So cherish those connections and never underestimate the power of a good friend.

Remember, life’s a journey, not a destination, and we’re all just figuring it out as we go along. So take a deep breath, embrace the adventure, and trust that you’re exactly where you need to be. Cheers to thriving in your 20s – let’s make it one heck of a ride!
