We center transformative social justice values and action as the foundation upon which we build all of the rest of our work. Our fundamental way of connecting to our vision for a socially just society is to imagine a world that is equitable and healing for all to live in. We commit to bringing this vision for a more just world into fruition through our commitment to transformative justice, social justice movements, healing justice work, and other community healing. We appreciate trailblazers like Mimi Kim and Creative Interventions, Mia Mingus and the Bay Area Transformative Justice Collective, the Youth Justice Coalition, Critical Resistance, and INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence, among so many others, for their leadership in showing us that transformative justice can and must be practiced today through community accountability, centering survivors, and resisting criminalization of marginalized communities, in order to truly move toward liberation.
We believe in boldly addressing systems of power, privilege, and oppression, and we take to heart Angela Davis’s mobilizing call to believe that it is possible to radically transform the world. Heeding her words, we are working to radically transform Los Angeles, envisioning a county full of individuals and communities that center healing from trauma and living in ways that engender wellbeing and harmony. As Arundhati Roy’s words whisper encouragingly to us, we believe that another world is in the making with the actions we take and the values we embody today.
