The Trauma Informed Task Force of Greater Los Angeles (TICTFGLA) held our 2nd Community Roundtable on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 at Hillsides, in Pasadena. Over 80 community members, service providers, and other interested professionals were in attendance.
The theme of this roundtable was Community Trauma and Community Healing, and the goals included:
- Learn about the guiding principles of Trauma Informed Care & Community Impact
- Share your voice about Community Trauma and Community Healing
- Take Action: Join a Steering Committee Workgroup:
- Community Action and Engagement
- Trauma Informed Care Education
- Resource Development
- Policy
The evening began with a drumming circle as a grounding and connecting exercise. Attendees then learned more about the TICTFGLA, ACEs Connection, and were invited to get more involved.
To share thoughts on the evening’s theme – Community Trauma and Community Healing, everyone was asked to think about
write down their answers on post-its, and place them on large poster sheets under the appropriate heading. Though not surprising, it was invigorating to see such a shared vision for a more trauma informed community emerge from the “community healing” board!
Attendees were then invited to break up into small groups based on workgroup topics to begin discussing what taking action could look like. Everyone was encouraged to continue the momentum and energy generated from these small group discussions beyond the night’s event.
Following the event, a survey was sent out to the TICTFGLA listserv to get more feedback on what the community envisions for the TICTFGLA. Below is an infographic created from the results:
