SUMMARY:Dismantling White Fragility: A Conversation around Transformative Justice and Racial Awakening
DESCRIPTION:February 2021\, Dismantling White Fragility: A Conversation around Transformative Justice and Racial Awakenings \n \nREGISTER HERE \nThe last event in our three-part Our Stories webinar series\, Dismantling White Fragility: A Conversation around Transformative Justice and Racial Awakening explores the intersection of race\, healing\, and justice. \nRobin DiAngelo\, a researcher and author of the best-selling book “White Fragility\,” explains white fragility to be a defensive response by a white person when their whiteness is highlighted or mentioned\, or their racial worldview is challenged\, whether this response is conscious or otherwise. \nWhite fragility creates the interpersonal and systemic conditions that prevent courageous conversations around racial justice and equity\, and the ways in which white supremacy systematically impacts Black\, Indigenous\, People of Color. This webinar will focus on dismantling white fragility and demonstrate how we can lean into the discomfort to have these uncomfortable but necessary conversations. The goal is to discuss how non-BIPOC can embody anti-racism; embrace learning and processing from a place of compassion and curiosity; and empower viewers with ideas for actionable steps they can take to create brave spaces and promote collective racial healing.

SUMMARY:Healing our Nation - Where do we go next?
DESCRIPTION:January 2021\, Healing Our Nation: Where do we go from here? \n\n\n \n\n\nA webinar on processing national trauma through collective healing. \nEVENT DESCRIPTION\nAs highlighted by recent political events\, our nation has experienced unimaginable trauma. For the past four years\, we as people and a nation have endured and survived as a country divided. With the change in national leadership\, it is our time to heal\, repair\, and build a future together grounded in healing. \nIn this webinar\, we will feature diverse voices who hold space for collective healing in our nation. Panelists will lead a conversation on how we can heal as a community and our journey of collective resilience. We will create space to process trauma\, hold one another’s stories\, and embody collective healing. While healing methods may not simply “fix” systemic racism\, they allow for outlets to release trauma and enable us to persist in the fight to create racial healing for our society. \nEVENT PANELISTS \nDr. Patty Ramirez\, Mutima Imani\, Salina Villegas\, Monique Noel\, and Ramona Merchan (moderator). \nEVENT DETAILS \nThis is a free event with a suggested donation of $15. Registrants will receive a follow-up email with logistical information. \nClick Here to Register for Healing Our Nation

The event was hosted by the USC School of Social Work\, the Trauma Informed Care Task Force of Greater Los Angeles (TIC Task Force)\,  the National Association of Social Workers\, USC Alumni\, and the USC Career Development Department. \nPaper Tigers follows a year in the life of an alternative high school in Walla Walla\, WA that has radically changed its approach to disciplining its students\, becoming a promising model for how to break the cycles of poverty\, violence\, and disease that affect families. DESCRIPTION:The Trauma Informed Task Force of Greater Los Angeles (TICTFGLA) held our 2nd Community Roundtable on Tuesday\, November 10\, 2015 at Hillsides\, in Pasadena. Over 80 community members\, service providers\, and other interested professionals were in attendance. \nThe theme of this roundtable was Community Trauma and Community Healing\, and the goals included: \n\nLearn about the guiding principles of Trauma Informed Care & Community Impact\nShare your voice about Community Trauma and Community Healing\nTake Action: Join a Steering Committee Workgroup:\n\nCommunity Action and Engagement\nTrauma Informed Care Education\nResource Development\nPolicy\n\n\n\n\nDrumming Circle \nThe evening began with a drumming circle as a grounding and connecting exercise. Attendees then learned more about the TICTFGLA\, ACEs Connection\, and were invited to get more involved. \nTo share thoughts on the evening’s theme – Community Trauma and Community Healing\, everyone was asked to think about \nCommunity Liaison\, Dulce Acosta \n\nwhat community trauma looks like and\nwhat community healing looks like\,\n\nwrite down their answers on post-its\, and place them on large poster sheets under the appropriate heading. Though not surprising\, it was invigorating to see such a shared vision for a more trauma informed community emerge from the “community healing” board! \nAttendees were then invited to break up into small groups based on workgroup topics to begin discussing what taking action could look like. Everyone was encouraged to continue the momentum and energy generated from these small group discussions beyond the night’s event. \nStrategic Planning CommitteeBack Row (l to r): Susan Hess\, Lisa Gallegos\, Leona Smith Di Faustino\, Dana Brown\, Nicholas Bruss\, Dulce Acosta\, K-Rahn VallatineMiddle Row (l to r): Katie Tyler\, Stacey Roth\, Devika ShankarFront Row (l to r): Olivia Piacenza\, Nkem Ndefo\, Emily Cummins-Polk \nFollowing the event\, a survey was sent out to the TICTFGLA listserv to get more feedback on what the community envisions for the TICTFGLA.
