JAMALA TAYLOR

is a dedicated social justice advocate with a rich background in organizing, both inside and outside of prison walls. Having transitioned from solitary confinement to the general population at CSP-LAC, Jamala’s journey includes a remarkable release in December 2020 after serving 31 years with a life sentence.

Currently serving as the Reentry Manager for insightgardenprogram.org, Jamala leads the Reentry team with a deep commitment to supporting both current and formerly incarcerated individuals. His mission revolves around connecting them with essential services and fostering the necessary support for a successful reintegration into society.

Jamala’s advocacy extends to women, addressing the unique challenges they face during reentry. He emphasizes the urgent need for gender-specific resources and approaches tailored to their distinct needs.

An accomplished public speaker, Jamala possesses versatility in addressing various topics, both virtually and in person. His adept facilitation skills, coupled with substantial experience, make him a valuable asset in any setting.

Beyond his advocacy work, Jamala is a certified life coach, having undergone formal training from Coaching for Healing, Justice, and Liberation. His expertise spans individual coaching, organizational/leadership coaching, and facilitation training.

In pursuit of academic excellence, Jamala is on the verge of completing his BA Degree in Sociology at CSUF and is actively applying to Master’s programs.
