In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are happy to invite you to:

THE IPV REVOLUTION:

Dismantling Oppression and Building Solidarity

Wednesday, October 10, 2018
5:00 PM – 8:30 PM
at the Galen Center Founder’s Room

Please join the NASW-USC Unit, USC Relationship and Sexual Violence Prevention and Services (RSVP), Trauma Informed LA, and the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work Alumni Association for a discussion about intimate partner violence (IPV). Hear first-hand accounts of how structural and political intersectionality, terms defined by noted researcher Kimberlé Crenshaw that refer to the ways communities of color experience gender based violence, rape, and remedial reform in ways that are statistically and quantitatively different from other communities, often undermine the violence that people of color have endured.

The evening will consist of a series of short presentations featuring four speakers, each of whom will shed light on various aspects of IPV as it relates to their multiple social identities and/or the identities of the communities they engage in their work. A panel discussion will follow and be moderated by Njera Keith, community activist and founder of Black Sovereign Nation and co-founder of 400+1, a Black cooperative federation.

We invite you to join us and learn more about the intersections of gang membership among girls not being included in the #metoo movement by LaNaisha Edwards, IPV and incarceration by Heidi Rummel, IPV and the military by Adriana Guerrero, and IPV and HIV among black women by Maya Merriweather.

Registration:
